The best way to learn about MAS is to attend one of our meetings, so admission is free and guests are welcome. We meet on the third Friday of each month, except for December and July (no general meeting in those months).
Our meetings are held at the New Berlin Ale House. Our monthly general meetings are in the room at the west end of the building. We will make every effort to provide signage, but feel free to ask someone.
Doors open at 6:30 with meetings starting promptly at 7:00 p.m. We start with a brief business meeting, including club announcements before introducing our monthly speaker. Following the speaker, we have a short break, then host a mini-auction, featuring fish, inverts, plants or hard goods donated by members, as well as entries in our HAP and BAP programs. Funds from these auctions go to support our speaker and meeting room expenses, so members and guests alike are encouraged to donate items, as well as bid frequently and often.
After the meeting, we shuffle the room around and catch up over some of the great eats the New Berlin Ale House has to offer. There’s really nothing like sitting at a table with 20+ fish geeks, laughing and talking about the hobby after a long week.
Please join us.
Here’s a look at the speakers we’ll be hosting this year:
- August 16: Robert Shields – Colombian Llanos
- September: CATACLYSM – September 13, 14, 15
- October 18: TBD
- November 15: Greg Sage – Livebearers
- December: No monthly meeting. Join us for the Christmas party (members only).
MAS ANNUAL PICNIC
This annual activity gives MAS members a chance to relax and enjoy some time together over the summer. The 2019 MAS picnic will be held July 27 at Grant Park.
Members are encouraged to bring the entire family. The club provides water, soda and meat. Everyone is encouraged to bring a dish to pass and lawn games, if they have them.
There is a fee to help offset the costs of this activity and more information will be
available soon. If you would like to help or want more information, be sure to reach out to Jessica at secretary@Milwaukeeaquariumsociety.com
Affectionately known as Fish-O-Ramma, MAS hosts swap meets each year to help connect the Milwaukee aquatic community with sellers of fish, plants and aquarium supplies. It’s a great opportunity to find unusual species and speak with the sellers, who are typically the breeders who raised the fish.
Be sure to arrive early for the best selection and take time to talk with vendors. It’s a great way to pick up new tips and ideas. Admission is $2 and children 11 and under are free with paid adult admission. This is a great place to teach kids about the hobby.
Interested in selling?
Vendors who want to sell their fish, plants and/or aquarium supplies can rent table space. The cost for renting space is $20/8-foot table and you may rent multiple tables. Sellers do not split their sales with MAS. Contact Jerry Michels at (262) 623-6449 or firstname.lastname@example.org with questions or to reserve you space for an upcoming swap.
Time & location
All swaps are held at the New Berlin Bowl, 16000 W. Cleveland Ave., New Berlin. Doors open at 10:00 AM and the swap ends at 2:00 PM. Be sure to arrive early for the best selection, as sellers often sell out of the most popular items.
